Goal Setting - Written, Measurable Goals

Last week I sat down and made a list of bullet points of my goals that I later recorded as an audio file and put it over a music sound track. I use this music and spoken reminder for my daily visualization exercise.

Having listened to this audio now for a couple of days, I am noticing a few things. First, I am getting better a visualizing my goals. This has had some unexpected positive consequences that I’d like to share in another article, but for for now realize that by becoming better at visualizing my goals, I feel like I am getting closer to accomplishing them.

Second, is that I am thinking about my goals throughout the day more. It is helping me make decisions to avoid things that are not in-line with my goals and move toward things that are in-line with my goals.  That alone is worth noting… I am doing more things that will help me achieve my goals and avoiding things that will not help me or will distract me.

Third, I am noticing that since most of my bullet points were written and were measurable, I can actually see if I am making progress and not just a feeling of getting closer but a measurable, numerically measurable, progress.

It is very interesting to me to see that since my goals are written and measurable, I can clearly see whether or not I have made progress and how much progress I have made.

I also find it a huge help when visualizing to be able to see just how far I have come and how I can achieve the goals I have written out and are measuring.

If you are considering setting goals, I strongly recommend that you sit down and write them out and make sure that they are measurable and specific. I would also recommend that you take time daily to go over what your goals are and how you see yourself achieving them.

It has been a huge help for me and I think it will be a huge help for you too.

Until my next post,

James
