Will your referral program policies change?
One thing you can always count on… change.
Our referral program will undoubtedly change over time. Expect it. Plan on it. It will happen.
How will it change? I am not sure at this point… we really do try to do what will be best, but that often requires testing things.
Will we fail and come up with bad ideas? Yes.
Will we screw up and have to go back to how things were at times? Very likely.
Will we find some things that ultimately work better and stick with them? Yes.
Will this cause some people to complain about “that’s not how you used to do it”? I suspect it is only a matter of time before that happens.
So, yes… expect change.
As an aside, one thing that we will likely be testing at some point is a fee to even be considered for the referrals? Why? Because, based on my experiences dealing with people that get something for nothing, they tend to discount the value of what they get. In other words, other people (probably not you) will follow up better when they pay something up front for the referrals and this means better service for our clients and that means more business for everyone.
One thing we have changed since our referrals began is the sponsorship model. So far, the feedback on that idea has been overwhelmingly positive.
Until my next post,
James
